Does production seem to be slowing down? Or perhaps your industrial machine rental isn’t really seeing a peak these months. Whatever the reason may be, if your forklift is sitting idle thought out most days, it is going to need a bit of maintenance to keep it warmed up. Here are a few pro tips.
Check the tires
Even though you may have solid forklift tires on your vehicle, if it is idle, this can still cause some damage. Check the shape of your tires and signs of impact damage or other wear and tear and do the needful. Damaged tires can cause downtime and other risks.
Check on resilience
The 60J line is your safety mark! Make sure your tires are not worn out beyond this. If your tires are tread pattern ones, they may not need replacements. As they’ve become smooth you can regroove them up to the 60J mark.
Check press-on tires
If your tire has reached 2/3 of its original height, this means it needs to be replaced. Look for the safety line on the tire if you’ve got one and inform suppliers like GRI Tires in time so that work will not be disrupted.
Industrial Pneumatics
Search for punctures and other signs of impact on your tires as this can compromise the performance and stability of the tire. Use a tread depth gauge to check the tread depth of the tire. Remember to maintain the air pressure of your tire.
Brief reminders
Giving your operators a reminder to check their tires and report any shortcomings would also be a great way of staying on top with your tire maintenance.
